Vermonters at WarVERMONTERS AT WAR “World War II: From Home Front to Front Lines”

When Japanese bombs rained on an unsuspecting Pearl Harbor, the people of Vermont, like all Americans, were thrown into the conflict of World War II. No town, farm or family was sheltered from the turmoil of this global crisis. Sadness mixed with pride as families bade farewell to sons and daughters who headed for the fighting in Europe and the Pacific Islands.

Others joined in the war effort by toiling in armaments factories or by growing food on family farms and in backyard Victory gardens. Rationing, blackouts and scrap drives brought the reality of war to daily life.

In this compelling video, historic film footage illustrates the personal memories of those who lived through these turbulent times.
